Our clients IT systems help support the trading of items such as derivative swaps and fixed income products. We are just one of two tier one preferred suppliers and have been established as a key supplier for several years. We have been asked to assist in the hire a of permanent UNIX Infrastructure Team Leader.
Overview
A UNIX administrator with experience in managing a UNIX Production support team ensuring adherence to company procedures and standards. Provide out of hours and on-call support. Planning and managing delivery of UNIX change work packages as required by the business. Incident management experience, reporting progress and escalating as appropriate to senior stakeholders. Providing assistance to the Infrastructure Service Manager as required, including assuming the role of single-point-of-contact in absence of the Infrastructure Services Manager.
Responsibilities - UNIX Team Lead
* Manage UNIX team BAU responsibilities to ensure critical Production and non-Production system availability and levels of service are maintained as required.
* Ensure effective, pro-active monitoring and management is maintained for all systems.
* Incident Management: take lead role in co-ordination and communication between technical second/ third level support teams in system critical situations.
* Identifying opportunities for improvement that will facilitate a better level of service or cost saving.
* Manage incidents, changes, configurations etc and ensure systems are documented to an appropriate standard.
* Provide regular management reporting to management
* Identify mechanisms to improve service availability / costs
* Ensure excellent levels of service and communication are maintained between your team and other teams within the organisation.
* Exercise sound management skills in all dealings with technology and business stakeholders including but not limited to the skills of: influencing, negotiating, conflict resolution, performance enhancement, and error correction.
* Will need to work closely with other IT and business teams
* Provide out of hours and on-call support
* To undertake any other duties as may be required by management on an ad-hoc basis.
Responsibilities - Project Delivery
* Work with Project Manager or Infrastructure Service Manager as appropriate, in the production of Project Work Package for project related delivery.
* Provide input to planning activities, as appropriate
* Ensure that risks are identified, recorded and regularly reviewed and plans modified to include agreed actions to avoid or reduce the impact.
* Ensure escalation of risks that could result in tolerance being exceeded which include time, costs, scope, quality and benefit.
* Be responsible to Project Manager or Infrastructure Services Manager, as appropriate, for overall delivery of agreed Work Package Products, to the required standard of quality and within the specified constraints of time and cost.
Skills and Experience Required
* Very strong Solaris 10 skills and preferably experience of Solaris on x86.
* Have full understanding of Project Deliverables.
* Excellent communications with stakeholders including third parties, regarding incidents, changes and other tasks and their progress. These must be both timely and accurate.
* Possess demonstrable experience in managing UNIX support teams and delivering IT infrastructure projects in an ITIL Production environment.
* Possess a technical understanding of IT Production environments from an infrastructure perspective.
* Be familiar with ITIL practices related to project implementation and service management e.g. Service Transition, Service Acceptance, Change Control.
* Acquire knowledge to support specialisation in a technical or business discipline/domain in due course
