Job Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated Database Application Developer to work in the Proteomics Services Team on the PRIDE Protein Identification Database, a rapidly growing resource currently holding close to 1TB of mass spectrometry-based proteomics data. The post involves further development and optimization of the PRIDE database core as well participating in user interface and quality assurance tool development.
The European Bioinformatics Institute provides cutting edge research and services for biomolecular data.
Qualifications and Experience:
Applicants must have a degree in a relevant field (ideally an interdisciplinary degree in biology/chemistry/computer science) or proven professional experience. Proficiency in Java and extensive experience in database development (preferably MySQL) including schema design and SQL optimization are required. Knowledge of web technologies, knowledge of Hibernate, or experience with large data volumes and database scalability would be highly beneficial.
The post holder must work be able to independently and interact well within a team environment. Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as a working knowledge of English are essential.
Contract: An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
